Renal Artery Stenosis(Kidney Attack)
Renal Artery Stenosis (RAS) is a condition in which one or both of the arteries supplying blood to the kidneys become narrowed or blocked, reducing blood flow to the kidneys. This is sometimes referred to as a "Kidney Attack" because, like a heart or leg attack, it results from impaired blood circulation.
Reduced blood supply can affect kidney function, leading to decreased urine output, worsening kidney health, and, if left untreated, may contribute to chronic kidney disease.
Renal Artery Stenosis is also a significant cause of persistent or difficult-to-control high blood pressure, particularly in younger adults or individuals with resistant hypertension.
Treatment aims to restore normal blood flow to the kidneys and preserve kidney function. Depending on the severity of the blockage, treatment options may include renal artery angioplasty, stent placement, or bypass surgery.
