Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is a condition in which the veins of the legs are unable to return blood efficiently to the heart, leading to increased pressure within the veins. It commonly develops as an advanced stage of varicose veins or as a long-term complication of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

As the condition progresses, patients may experience skin discoloration around the lower leg and ankle, along with the development of venous (varicose) ulcers. These wounds are often painful, slow to heal, and may produce persistent watery discharge.

Effective treatment includes specialized wound care, advanced dressings, compression therapy, and addressing the underlying venous disease. When CVI is associated with varicose veins, treating both the ulcer and the underlying vein problem is essential for successful healing and to reduce the risk of recurrence.

With timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment, most venous ulcers can heal successfully, improving comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.
