Cervical Rib and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) are uncommon conditions in which an extra rib in the neck or narrowing of the thoracic outlet compresses the arteries, veins, or nerves that supply the arm.

This compression can cause a variety of symptoms, including pain, tingling, numbness, weakness in the arm or fingers, discoloration of the fingers, coldness of the hand, and in severe cases, reduced blood flow leading to ulcers or gangrene of the fingers.

Early diagnosis is important to prevent permanent nerve or blood vessel damage. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition and may include physiotherapy, medications, or surgery.

In patients with significant compression, surgical removal of the cervical rib or decompression of the thoracic outlet may be required to relieve pressure on the affected structures. In some cases, additional vascular procedures, such as arterial repair or reconstruction, may also be necessary to restore normal blood flow to the arm.
