Leg Attack (Peripheral Artery Disease)
Just like a heart attack, a Leg Attack is a serious vascular condition that requires timely diagnosis and treatment.
It occurs when the arteries supplying blood to the legs or arms become narrowed or blocked, reducing blood flow to the affected limb. If left untreated, it can lead to gangrene, severe pain, loss of limb function, and in advanced cases, amputation.
Common Symptoms
- Tingling or numbness in the feet or toes.
- Pain in the calf or thigh while walking that improves with rest.
- Persistent pain in the feet, especially at night, making it difficult to sleep.
- Coldness, discoloration, or non-healing wounds on the affected limb.
In severe cases, amputation of the affected limb may become necessary to save the patient's life.
To restore blood flow and prevent limb loss, advanced treatments such as angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery may be recommended for blocked arteries in the legs or arms.
